REGIONAL FIREFIGHTER TRAINING PROGRAM

This free 1 day program will consist of discussion in the classroom & H.O.T. “hands on” training. Registration and welcoming remarks will begin at 7:00 am and be followed with training. Each of the 4 classes will be limited to 20 registrants per class. Registrants will ONLY be able to attend 1 class along with the mandatory rehab class. This training is open to all volunteer and career firefighters.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Rural Water Supply and Drafting
This class will demonstrate the basic principles in providing water to fires in areas without a municipal water supply. Classroom discussion on apparatus placement, transferring of water from the tanker to the attack engine, the role of the water supply officer and an overview of practical evolutions.

The practical portion will include the basics of drafting, apparatus placement, transferring of water and supplying the attack engine.

PPE NEEDED: Structural or wild land PPE
 
 
 

Basic Pump Operations and Problem Solving
This class will focus on basic pump operations and how to problem solve when an unexpected problem challenges the pump operator. Classroom discussion on the roles and responsibilities of the pump operator, safety standards, and the how’s, when’s and where’s of operating a pump on an emergency scene.
 
The practical walks the participants through operating a pump and delivering water to hose lines, how to maintain a constant flow and how to troubleshoot problems when they arise.

PPE NEEDED: Structural or wild land PPE
 
 
 

Basic Vehicle Extrication with Limited Hand Tools
What happens when the hydraulic tool doesn’t work at extrication? This class demonstrates how to gain access to patients using hand tools and equipment that you have on your apparatus. Classroom discussion on basic extrication principles, safety standards and the tools in your big red toolbox.
 
The practical will include several stations that will allow the participants to learn and practice the art of vehicle stabilization, glass removal, removing the roof and other tricks of the trade.

PPE NEEDED: Structural PPE to include work gloves and eye protection
 
 
 

Firefighter Survival
Do you know what to do when you are in a “mayday” situation? This class gives participants a chance to practice firefighter survival techniques under a controlled environment. Classroom discussion on calling the mayday, radio etiquette, RIT and safety.

The practical will consist of utilizing several props to place the firefighter in a simulated survival situation and instructing the firefighter how to overcome the challenges of needing self rescue.

PPE NEEDED: Structural firefighting PPE and SCBA with mask.
